Danner Tachyon 8"

The Danner Tachyon is Danner's answer to "make a combat boot that feels like a running shoe." At 13 ounces per boot, it is among the lightest 8-inch tactical boots in production. The construction is unapologetically minimalist: rough-out full-grain leather panels stitched to 1000D nylon, an EVA midsole, an unlined interior, and a proprietary low-pentagonal-lug rubber outsole designed for urban and hard surfaces rather than mud.

The DLE-01 last gives the boot a wider toe box than most tactical boots, which helps under heavy load and on lateral movement. The speed-lace system tightens from toe to top with one pull, useful when you need to put boots on quickly. There is no GORE-TEX liner, which is the entire point: this is a hot-weather boot intended to breathe and dry.

The Tachyon is AR 670-1 and AFI 36-2903 compliant in coyote, and Danner offers a GTX waterproof variant if you need waterproofing (at the cost of about 9 oz per boot and roughly $50 more). For most users in temperate or hot climates, the standard Tachyon is the right buy. It is not the boot to take into the mountains or onto wet rock.
