Overview

The tactix 8 AMOLED is the value entry into the flagship tactix line, and at 47mm it is the most wrist-friendly of the bunch. The AMOLED panel is genuinely bright and sharp, which makes maps, data fields, and the flashlight more usable indoors and at night than the MIP Solar variants. The trade is battery: roughly 29 days in smartwatch mode versus 48 on the solar MIP, and fewer GPS hours per charge. For a shooter or operator who charges weekly anyway, that is a fair trade for the better screen.

Ballistics here is Applied Ballistics Ultralight, not Elite. Ultralight covers the standard library drag models and produces a solid firing solution for most rifle work; it lacks the custom drag curves and deeper environmental modeling of the Elite engine on the Solar Elite. Everything else matches the line: stealth mode, memory-wipe kill switch, jumpmaster, projected waypoints, dual-position GPS, NVG display mode, sapphire lens, titanium bezel, MIL-STD-810, and a 40m dive rating.

Key Features

  • Bright AMOLED display, the most readable screen in the tactix line
  • Applied Ballistics Ultralight solver with the standard drag-model library
  • 47mm case wears smaller than the 51mm Solar variants
  • Full tactical suite: stealth mode, kill switch, jumpmaster, NVG mode
  • Sapphire lens, titanium bezel, MIL-STD-810, 40m dive rating

Pros

  • +Cheapest way into the tactix 8 line
  • +Brightest, sharpest screen of any tactix for maps and night use
  • +Carries the Applied Ballistics solver most rifle shooters actually need
  • +47mm case is comfortable for smaller wrists

Cons

  • Ultralight solver, not the Elite engine on the Solar Elite
  • AMOLED battery life is roughly 29 days versus 48 on solar MIP
  • Still four-figure pricing for a watch most buyers will use casually
