Overview

The Nike SFB Gen 2 is the boot for users who want their combat boot to feel like a Nike Free with leather panels. The geometry comes from Nike's running last, the midsole is Phylon, and the upper combines suede leather panels with breathable textile mesh. The result is the closest thing to a running shoe that still has 8 inches of ankle coverage.

For CQB, indoor training, range days, and casual wear, the SFB Gen 2 is excellent. The athletic last and ground feel are noticeably better than traditional boots, particularly for users transitioning from low-cut shoes. The coyote colorway is AR 670-1 compliant for Army wear; the black variant is not for active duty. Nike sizing applies, which means runners can buy true-to-size from their running shoes.

The trade-off is durability and support. The Phylon midsole packs out faster than the PU midsoles in Lowa or Garmont boots, and the leather panels are thinner. This is not the boot for ruck marches under 60 lbs or extended wet operations. It is the boot for users whose priority is running-shoe comfort with ankle coverage, and Nike has not seriously updated the SFB platform since the Gen 2, so factor that into resale and availability decisions.
