Crye Precision
Crye's two-piece overlapping shell design for ventilation under load. NIJ IIIA rated, made in the USA, and listed at 2.5-2.95 lb by size for buyers who value heat management as much as protection.
The Crye Precision AirFrame ATX is the helmet to buy when heat management is as important as ballistic protection. Crye's two-piece overlapping shell design creates a vented gap between the upper and lower panels that allows hot air to escape under load, a tangible advantage on hot ranges and in long-duration operations where a sealed FAST shell becomes an oven.
Ballistic certification is NIJ Level IIIA, the same class as a FAST SF or EXFIL Ballistic. Weight is size-specific at 2.5 lb for MD, 2.75 lb for LG, and 2.95 lb for XL, which puts the large shell slightly heavier than the Team Wendy EXFIL Ballistic and noticeably heavier than the Ops-Core FAST SF Next Gen. The airflow benefit closes some of that perceived-weight gap during sustained wear. The ATX variant is lighter than the original AirFrame helmet by removing some of the fixed accessory hardware in favor of modular options.
Crye sells the AirFrame ATX direct and through specialist retailers. Lead times vary; in-stock availability is often better through dealers than direct. The matching Crye AirFrame Helmet Cover is purpose-cut to fit the two-piece shell and runs $69-76 in Multicam. Avoid generic FAST helmet covers, which do not accommodate the AirFrame's geometry.
