Overview

The Baby Banter is what happens when a designer who runs a knife company (Ben Petersen, Knafs Co) builds something for people who think pocket knives are too big. The 2.34" blade puts it well under every legal carry threshold in the US, and the 1.99 oz weight means it doesn't pull your pants down. If your objection to carrying a knife is "I don't want a brick in my pocket," this is the answer.

The Nitro-V steel deserves attention. It's a nitrogen-enriched derivative of AEB-L, the Swedish stainless that's become the darling of custom knife makers because it sharpens easier than premium steels while approaching their edge retention. Nitro-V improves on AEB-L with better corrosion resistance, important in a knife you'll forget about and leave in a damp pocket for weeks. The drop-point profile gives you a piercing tip the sheepsfoot Pilar lacks.

The nested liner lock is the construction trick that makes the slim profile possible. Instead of liners sitting between the G10 scales and the blade pivot (adding thickness), they're recessed into the G10 itself. Lockup is still positive, you just trade some redundancy for a knife that's effectively scale-thickness. For a sub-$60 EDC that can live in a dress-pants pocket without anyone knowing it's there, the Baby Banter is the pick.
