Overview

The Performance Center M&P9 M2.0 Competitor is Smith & Wesson's purpose-built USPSA Carry Optics platform. The 7075-T6 aluminum frame and stainless slide bring the unloaded weight to 29 ounces, the lightest "metal-frame" entry in the legal-platform pool. The 5-inch barrel and slide lightening cuts reduce reciprocating mass to balance the front end. Performance Center adds the M2.0 flat-face trigger with a clean break around 4.5 pounds and the shortest reset M&P has shipped.

The optic-ready slide accepts the C.O.R.E. plate system covering RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, 507C, and other common footprints. Suppressor-height iron sights ship from the factory for co-witness. Four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts adjust for hand size; the flared magwell speeds reloads. Four 10-round magazines ship in the case for compliance state shipping; 17-round magazines are available for non-restricted states.

The Competitor lives in a different price band than the Shadow 2 OR or Q5 Match SF Pro at $999 MSRP and competes more directly with the Canik Rival-S on value. The trade-off vs the steel-frame contenders is recoil management: 29 ounces unloaded means more muzzle flip than 41-46 ounce competitors, which top USPSA shooters compensate for with grip technique and load tuning.
