Overview

The Mesa Tactical Urbino is the duty and competition standard for shooters who want a pistol-grip stock on a Mossberg 500/590. Where the Magpul SGA preserves traditional shotgun stock geometry with adjustable LOP, the Urbino commits to a fixed 12.5-inch tactical length-of-pull and a vertical pistol grip. That combination is purpose-built for shooters running plate carriers, chest rigs, or working in compressed indoor positions where a longer stock would jam against gear or a wall.

The shorter LOP keeps the gun close to the body, which improves recoil control on rapid pump strokes and lets the shooter index the shotgun under a chin without fighting the buttstock. The pistol grip angle drives the gun forward against recoil and gives the support hand a positive, repeatable grip reference. Mesa offers the Urbino in a standard buttpad version (around $135) and a Limbsaver buttpad version (around $159), and the Limbsaver upgrade is worth the cost on full-power buckshot or 3-inch shells, where the difference in shoulder punishment is significant.

Construction is reinforced polymer over an aluminum spine for stiffness. Sling attachment uses traditional loops; the stock does NOT include a built-in QD cup, so shooters running QD slings need to add a hardware adapter (~$10). For most defensive use this is a non-issue, but it is worth noting against the Magpul SGA, which includes QD cups stock.

Compatibility covers the Mossberg 500, 590, 590A1, 835, and Maverick 88 12-gauge variants. The Urbino is NOT a drop-in for the Mossberg Shockwave (which has no stock interface), and it is not compatible with the optional Mossberg recoil-reducing stock systems. For the standard Mossberg shotgun owner who runs armor or wants the most aggressive defensive stock geometry available, the Urbino is the answer.
