HK VP9 OR optic footprint: what red dots fit

HK VP9 OR (Original)

The HK VP9 OR does not have a single optic footprint. It has a milled pocket and a numbered plate: the plate bolts into the slide, the red dot bolts to the plate, and the plate is what decides the footprint. Plate 02 covers the Trijicon RMR and Holosun 507C family, Plate 04 covers the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and a dedicated 509T plate handles the enclosed Holosun 509T and the AEMS MACRO. Machined aluminum and steel plates from C&H Precision and EGW extend the same slide to Aimpoint ACRO and Steiner MPS, to Holosun EPS and EPS Carry, and to the Holosun K, 407K and 507K pattern. One purpose-built optic drops into the pocket without a plate under it, but for everything else the plate, not the dot, is the part you have to get right.

Only the optics-ready slide has the pocket. A standard VP9 slide is solid steel behind the rear sight, so there is nothing for a plate to bolt into and the fix is an optic-cut slide rather than an adapter. The other thing to keep straight is which VP9 you own. HK's current VP9 lineup is the A1, and this page covers the original VP9 OR that stayed in production alongside it; both run the same numbered plate system. Those plates are bought one footprint at a time, so the pocket on a new pistol arrives covered rather than loaded with a set.

HK VP9 OR optic fitment FAQ

What optic footprint does the HK VP9 OR use?

Do I need an adapter plate to mount a red dot on the HK VP9 OR?

Yes, for almost every optic. The HK VP9 OR mounts red dots through a plate system, so you bolt the plate matching your optic's footprint into the slide and then bolt the optic to the plate. The exceptions are optics built for that pocket, such as the C&H Direct Mount Optic for HK Optics Ready Pistols, which mount with no plate. Plates are available for the Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C, Shield RMSc / Holosun K, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Aimpoint ACRO and Holosun 509T footprints.

Does the Holosun 507C X2 fit a HK VP9 OR?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun 507C X2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the HK VP9 OR using a matching plate such as the HK VP9 Optic Ready Plate 02 RMR/Holosun and C&H Precision HK VP9 V4 MIL/LEO RMR / Holosun C Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Trijicon RMR Type 2 fit a HK VP9 OR?

Yes, on a plate. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the HK VP9 OR using a matching plate such as the HK VP9 Optic Ready Plate 02 RMR/Holosun and C&H Precision HK VP9 V4 MIL/LEO RMR / Holosun C Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Holosun 507K X2 fit a HK VP9 OR?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun 507K X2 is a Shield RMSc / Holosun K footprint optic, so it mounts on the HK VP9 OR using a matching plate such as the C&H Precision HK VP9 Holosun EPS / EPS Carry Plate and C&H Precision HK VP9 Holosun K / 407K / 507K Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Holosun EPS Carry fit a HK VP9 OR?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun EPS Carry mounts on the HK VP9 OR using the C&H Precision HK VP9 Holosun EPS / EPS Carry Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Which plate does a Holosun 507C need on the HK VP9 OR?

The RMR and Holosun plate, HK's Plate 02. The 507C is built on the Trijicon RMR footprint, so the plate HK sells for RMR-pattern dots is the one it mounts on, and it carries the 508T, the SRO and the RCR as well. Machined steel and aluminum plates in the same footprint from C&H Precision and EGW are drop-in alternatives if you want a stiffer plate under a duty optic.

Can a Holosun 509T and an Aimpoint ACRO use the same VP9 plate?

No. Both are enclosed-emitter optics, but they are different footprints and each takes its own plate. The 509T mounts on a 509T plate, which also carries the Holosun AEMS MACRO. The ACRO P-2 mounts on an ACRO plate, which is the same plate that carries the Steiner MPS. There is no one enclosed-optic plate that covers both.

What plate do the small Holosun K dots use on a VP9 OR?

A dedicated Holosun K plate covers the 407K and 507K. The enclosed Holosun EPS and EPS Carry get a different plate again, even though both optics are small and both are C&H Precision parts. Match the plate to the exact optic model rather than to its size class.
