The Ruger MAX-9 slide is cut for one pattern, which Ruger lists as JPoint and Shield RMSc, so an RMSc-footprint micro dot bolts straight to the slide with no plate in between. The pocket, the lugs, and the screw holes are milled into the slide itself on every optic-ready model, which keeps the dot as low as this pistol can carry one. Ruger's own MAX-9 optics list runs through the Shield RMS, RMSc, and SMS family, the SIG Romeo Zero, the Swampfox Sentinel, and Ruger's ReadyDot, all on that same base. Holosun's K-series dots are the exception, because their bases and the RMSc lug arrangement do not line up.
Two MAX-9 models break the pattern. Ruger's California-approved model 3518 lists its optic pattern as none, because the loaded chamber indicator occupies that space, and Ruger states outright that the model is unable to accept mounted optics. Model 3523 goes the other way and ships with a Ruger ReadyDot factory mounted and co-witnessed, so the pocket is already spoken for. Models 3514 and 3519 are the bare optic-ready guns. Check the model number before you buy a dot for one.

Use the adapter hardware Holosun ships with its K-series optics. An RMSc-pattern dot such as a Shield RMSc or a SIG Romeo Zero bolts on with nothing underneath it.
