Magpul MOE M-LOK Forend (Remington 870)

The Magpul MOE M-LOK Forend (model MAG496) is the matching forend to the SGA stock and the right pick for budget-conscious 870 builds where a Streamlight TL-Racker is out of scope. The factory 870 wood or polymer forend is functional but featureless: no M-LOK, no rail real estate, and a smooth texture that gets slick when wet or with gloves. The MAG496 fixes all three issues for $30.

The forend swap is drop-in. Unscrew the factory magazine cap, slide the factory forend off the action bars, slide the MOE forend on, and reinstall the cap. Fitment is the standard Remington 870 action bar assembly. M-LOK slots on the bottom and both sides accept any standard M-LOK accessory: a Scout-pattern light (Cloud Defensive REIN, SureFire M340, Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount HL-X) on the bottom slot, or an offset light, laser, or grip stop on the side slots. The aggressive texture gives positive grip with wet, sweaty, or gloved hands.

The MAG496 is the right answer when the budget runs out before a TL-Racker. A Scout-pattern light on a bottom M-LOK slot achieves the same defensive light goal as a TL-Racker, just with the trade-off of running a pressure switch and a separate light unit. Some shooters prefer this configuration anyway because the Scout-pattern light moves with the gun on a sling, retains rail real estate for a laser later, and uses 18650 batteries with longer runtime than the CR123A-only TL-Racker. For shooters who already own a Scout-pattern light from a rifle build, this is the cheapest path to a lit-up 870.
