The alpha-glass pick under two grand: Japanese-built Zeiss HD optics with T* coatings, a 30-60x eyepiece, and the shortest close focus in this guide at 10.8 ft.

The Conquest Gavia 85 is the entry point to true European alpha glass without stepping up to a Swarovski ATX price. Zeiss builds it in Japan with an HD lens system, T* multicoatings, and the LotuTec hydrophobic exterior coating that sheds rain and snow off the objective. The 30-60x eyepiece starts higher than the 20x floor most hunters glass at, so the Gavia rewards a shooter who spends most of the session picking apart distant country at magnification rather than scanning wide. Its standout number is a 10.8 ft close focus, by far the shortest here, which makes it genuinely useful for insects, birds, and fine detail when it is not on the mountain. At 60 oz it undercuts the heavier Leupold SX-4 and sits close to the Razor.
