Overview

The LifeStraw Personal is the simplest possible approach to emergency water filtration. There are no moving parts, no batteries, no setup steps. Submerge one end in water, drink from the other. The 0.2 micron hollow fiber membrane removes 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.9% of waterborne parasites, meeting EPA standards for microbiological water purifiers.

At 2 ounces with a slim tube profile, the LifeStraw fits in a cargo pocket or glove box without occupying meaningful space. This makes it an excellent redundancy item: keep one in your car, one in your pack, one in your emergency kit. The 1,000 gallon capacity is sufficient for one person's needs over roughly a year of daily use, though for a dedicated home emergency kit the Sawyer Squeeze offers greater capacity and versatility.

The trade-off for simplicity is limited flexibility. The LifeStraw works only as a direct straw; you cannot filter water into a container for cooking or group use without aftermarket adapters. For individual survival situations where you need to drink from streams, puddles, or other natural sources, it is hard to beat for the price and weight. The built-in cap protects both ends during storage.
