Katadyn Micropur MP1 tablets fill the critical gap that portable filters miss: virus removal. While hollow fiber filters like the Sawyer Squeeze and LifeStraw handle bacteria and protozoa, they cannot remove viruses. In contaminated municipal water scenarios (broken infrastructure, flooding), viral contamination is a real concern. Chlorine dioxide, the active ingredient in MP1 tablets, kills all three categories of waterborne pathogens.

Each tablet treats 1 liter of water. For bacteria and viruses, the treatment time is 15 minutes. For the hardiest pathogen, Cryptosporidium, the full 4-hour treatment time is necessary.
