B&T APC9 vs SPC9 vs GHM9: Best Pick by Use

The APC9 Pro wins for most buyers. Its 175 mm pistol package is the shortest of the three comparable standard configurations, and the current Pro receiver puts a folding, non-reciprocating charging handle on both sides. That gives it the cleanest compact manual of arms without the SPC9's long rear extension or the GHM9's single reversible handle.

The GHM9 Gen 2 wins on value. It is $1,605.99, while the APC9 Pro is $2,492. Both use the same broad operating principle, and the current GHM9 Gen 2 accepts APC9 Pro lower receiver groups. The money buys a simpler control package, not a lesser cartridge or an unbuffered action.

The SPC9 is the specialist. Its rear T-handle gives an AR shooter a familiar charging motion, while its forward folding handle remains available from either side. That layout also makes the stockless standard pistol 23.6 inches long. Buy it for those controls or one of its factory PDW and SD packages, not because it is a shorter APC9.

The action does not decide this comparison. Each current manual calls it a recoil-operated, closed-bolt blowback action: the fired case drives the bolt rearward, the bolt compresses the recoil spring, and a hydraulic buffer stops the bolt at the end of travel. Calling the APC9 hydraulic, the SPC9 direct blowback, and the GHM9 ordinary blowback would create a difference that B&T's manuals do not support.

The layout still matters because the assemblies are packaged differently. The APC9 keeps its recoil system inside the compact receiver group. The SPC9 carries a longer rear section that supports its AR-style charging system and its own telescopic hardware. The GHM9 uses another rear arrangement with its stock pin, buffer, spring plate, and spring called out separately in the manual. The same operating principle is not a parts-fitment claim.

The APC9 Pro has the cleanest compact controls. Its two forward handles fold automatically and do not travel with the bolt. Older non-Pro APC9 guns are different: B&T documents a single-side reciprocating handle and a one-piece lower with a fixed grip. A used listing that says only “APC9” needs a generation check before any Pro control claim applies.

The SPC9 is easiest for an AR-trained support hand to recognize. Pull the rear T-handle like an AR, or use the forward folding handle from either side. The price is length. Its standard pistol is more than eight inches longer than the comparable APC9 pistol even without a stock. The 6.5-inch SPC9 PDW trims the front, but the rear layout remains.

The GHM9 Gen 2 is the lightest standard pistol here. Its single forward handle swaps sides, but it does not become the APC Pro's dual system or the SPC9's two-system layout. That simpler receiver is part of why the GHM9 makes sense as the value choice.

Lower choice can cross family lines, but only where B&T says it does. The current GHM9 Gen 2 page states that it accepts APC9 Pro lower receiver groups. Current APC9 and SPC9 materials also show B&T, Glock, and SIG P320 magazine paths, although the exact lower bundled with a U.S. firearm changes by SKU.

Choose the lower before buying magazines. A B&T-pattern gun uses the straight translucent factory magazine. A Glock-lower gun uses Glock-pattern magazines, and a SIG lower uses P320 magazines. Do not buy rear hardware by brand alone. The APC manual lists folding, telescopic, skeleton, M4-adapter, and other assemblies built around the APC receiver. The SPC manual lists a narrower set built around its sliding rear system. The GHM manual calls out folding, telescopic, brace-adapter, NAR, M4-buffer-tube, and pistol-end options around a third arrangement.

The practical consequence is ownership cost. The APC9 has the deepest platform-specific stock and adapter coverage, but factory parts are expensive. The SPC9 buyer should start with the exact factory rear package wanted, because its long buffer layout defines the gun. The GHM9 can stay the value pick only if the selected stock or brace is verified for that exact GHM generation and end assembly.

The representative full-size pistols all provide a 3-lug path, and the current GHM9 G page also lists 1/2x28. Compact variants change the answer: B&T lists the APC9K and GHM9 Compact with 1/2x28 rather than flattening every family member into one muzzle row. Confirm the exact barrel before buying a mount.

Factory SD models are complete configurations, not proof that an SD barrel, handguard, or suppressor crosses to another family. The APC9 SD, SPC9 SD, and GHM9 SD use different package lengths and part sets. The APC family is the broadest current premium line. B&T lists standard APC9 Pro pistols, the shorter APC9K, multiple APC9 SD packages, Glock-lower counterparts, and stocked forms. The Pro and K labels matter: the U.S. APC9K pistol uses a 110 mm barrel, while a global catalog example uses a different K configuration. Use the U.S. SKU when comparing a U.S. purchase.

The SPC line spans the 9-inch standard pistol, 6.5-inch PDW, 4.5-inch-class SD, and 16-inch Sport, with B&T and Glock lower packages on the current U.S. category. That is the best reason to buy an SPC9: one of those exact layouts fits the job. The standard model is not the compact pick merely because the family is newer.

The current GHM9 is Gen 2. B&T lists full-size, Compact, and SD configurations with B&T or Glock lowers. Earlier GHM9 guns do not inherit Gen 2 barrel, handguard, stock, or SD-kit claims. For a used GHM9, verify the model and serial with B&T before pricing an upgrade plan.
