FN 509 Tactical optic footprint: what red dots fit

FN 509 Tactical

The FN 509 Tactical has no single optic footprint. It mounts red dots through FN's Low-Profile Optics Mounting System, a slide pocket that takes an interchangeable plate, and FN built it to accept more than ten commercially available miniature red dot optics. Trijicon RMR and Holosun 507C pattern optics ride the FN 509 MRD Trijicon RMR Mounting Kit or the steel Forward Controls OPF-FN509T plate. Leupold DeltaPoint Pro pattern dots use the FN 509 MRD DeltaPoint Pro Mounting Kit, Aimpoint ACRO and Steiner MPS pattern dots use the FN 509 Aimpoint ACRO MRD Kit, and the Holosun 509T needs the Apex FN 509 MRD mount. FN's own PUREVIEW is the exception, riding a proprietary FN interface with no plate under it.

The mounting system is what separates these pistols, not the 509 name. FN's base 509 lists fixed three-dot sights and no optics mounting system at all, so that slide has nowhere for a plate to bolt and no path to a dot short of a milling service. The Tactical, MRD, and Edge slides are the ones cut for the system, and the same pocket carries over to the FN 510 and 545. It does not carry down to the FN 502, the FN 503, or the Five-seveN.

FN 509 Tactical optic fitment FAQ

What optic footprint does the FN 509 Tactical use?

Do I need an adapter plate to mount a red dot on the FN 509 Tactical?

Yes, for almost every optic. The FN 509 Tactical mounts red dots through a plate system, so you bolt the plate matching your optic's footprint into the slide and then bolt the optic to the plate. The exceptions are optics built for that pocket, such as the FN PUREVIEW Holographic Micro Red Dot, which mount with no plate. Plates are available for the Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Aimpoint ACRO and Holosun 509T footprints.

Does the Holosun 507C X2 fit a FN 509 Tactical?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun 507C X2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the FN 509 Tactical using a matching plate such as the FN 509 MRD Trijicon RMR Mounting Kit and Forward Controls OPF-FN509T RMR Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Trijicon RMR Type 2 fit a FN 509 Tactical?

Yes, on a plate. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the FN 509 Tactical using a matching plate such as the FN 509 MRD Trijicon RMR Mounting Kit and Forward Controls OPF-FN509T RMR Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Aimpoint ACRO P-2 fit a FN 509 Tactical?

Yes, on a plate. The Aimpoint ACRO P-2 is a Aimpoint ACRO footprint optic, so it mounts on the FN 509 Tactical using the FN 509 Aimpoint ACRO MRD Kit. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro fit a FN 509 Tactical?

Yes, on a plate. The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint optic, so it mounts on the FN 509 Tactical using the FN 509 MRD DeltaPoint Pro Mounting Kit. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Can I mount a red dot on a standard FN 509?

Not without machining. FN's base 509 is specified with fixed three-dot sights and no optics mounting system, so the slide has no pocket, no plate screws, and no recoil shelf. The two real paths are a milling service cut for a specific footprint or a slide that already carries FN's Low-Profile Optics Mounting System, which is what the 509 Tactical, MRD, and Edge models have.

Do FN 509 plates fit the FN 510 and FN 545?

Yes for the factory MRD-cut slides in that family. Apex specifies its FN 509 MRD mount for FN 509, 510, and 545 factory MRD-cut slides, and calls out the FN 502, FN 503, and Five-seveN as not compatible. Those three use different slides and different optic mounting entirely.

Will the FN PUREVIEW mount on a DeltaPoint Pro cut slide?

No. FN lists the PUREVIEW footprint as a proprietary mounting interface, and it mounts natively on the MRD, Tactical, and Edge versions of the FN 509, 510, 545, and Five-seveN. A slide milled for a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is a different pattern and is not one of the hosts FN names.
