Holosun sent us this one, and ours rides an HK CC9, which mills the Holosun K cut into the slide, so the adapter plate stayed in the box. It has been faultless. Between it and our SCS Carry, two years of carry and roughly 1,500 rounds have produced no failures, no drift, and no lost zero. The CR1620 loads from the side, so a battery change is a parking-lot job, not a re-zero. One host-specific catch: the CC9's factory irons sit too low to co-witness through a dot this tall.

Holosun sent us the gold-dot version, which swaps the LED and nothing else. It went past 1,000 rounds on a Glock 47 MOS through training classes and competition stages, drawn from kydex and reholstered dirty, with no flicker, no battery complaints, and no measurable shift in zero. The one real downside is height. On the MOS slide it mounts through a plate, the stack puts the window well above the slide, and suppressor-height irons were required for a usable co-witness. On an RMR-cut slide, the adapter in the box gets it on day one.

The EPS Core puts the full-size EPS window, 0.90 by 0.63 inches, on a body that mounts straight to a Shield RMSc cut, so a P365 or Glock 43X MOS takes it with no plate. Osight sent us this one, and ours is on a Ruger RXM, which takes it straight on the RMR cut. Across roughly 1,000 rounds of training and competition, zero held and the housing never loosened. Halfway through one range trip it started raining; the gun beaded with water and the dot stayed bright. The 2/6 MOA swap is the reason to buy it, and the big window brings the dot in without hunting on a fast draw. Two knocks: shake-awake failed to light the dot once, and the rechargeable cell means no coin-cell swap in a parking lot.

Steiner seals the emitter in an all-metal housing and recesses the front lens under a metal hood, and the CR1632 changes without pulling the optic off the gun. This is SIG's own enclosed dot for the P365. It fits Shield RMSc cuts, changes its CR1632 through a threaded side cap without coming off the slide, and sits low enough to co-witness with standard-height sights. MOTAC wakes it on movement, but SIG rates the runtime at 20,000 hours at medium brightness, well short of the EPS Core and EPS Carry, and the circle-dot and dot-only versions are separate SKUs rather than one switchable optic.

Match Your Footprint: RMSc, RMR, ACRO, and Holosun K

Four footprints cover the enclosed-optic market: the Shield RMSc on slim carry guns, the RMR on full-size and compact duty pistols, the ACRO on its own dedicated cut, and the Holosun K that bridges RMSc slides through an adapter. Your slide is milled for exactly one of these, and an enclosed optic that does not match that cut will not bolt down no matter how good it is. The wrong choice means buying an adapter plate or re-milling the slide.

Slim carry guns are the heart of the enclosed-optic market. If you run a SIG P365, Hellcat, or Glock 43X, your slide is cut for the Shield RMSc pattern. The Holosun EPS Core, Vortex Defender-CCW Enclosed, and SIG ROMEO-X Compact Enclosed mount to that cut directly, and the EPS Core does it with the full-size EPS window; the Holosun EPS Carry uses its own Holosun K footprint and ships an RMSc-to-K adapter plate to bridge the gap. The practical upshot is that all four are P365-class options, but three are a true direct-mount and one runs through a plate.

Full-size and compact optics-ready pistols (Glock MOS, SIG P320, S&W M&P) are cut for the RMR footprint, the same pattern Holosun calls 507C. The Trijicon RCR and Osight XR drop straight onto that cut with no adapter, and the Holosun 509T X2 ships with an RMR adapter plate to do the same; our 509T X2 Gold review covers how that plate stack behaves over 1,000 rounds on a Glock MOS slide. The ACRO footprint is its own world: the Aimpoint ACRO P-2 and Steiner MPS share it, so you need a dedicated ACRO slide cut or an ACRO adapter plate to run either. Steiner's MPS 2.0 keeps that same footprint while moving to a CR2032 rated at up to 90,000 hours. The new, US-assembled Colt MRS-1 joins that ACRO group as a 3 MOA, 2 oz enclosed option. The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro cut is a fifth footprint, long dominated by open emitters. Its enclosed side is short: the Holosun SCS-320-GR, the Vortex Defender-ST Enclosed Solar, and Osight's SE DPP, the cheapest of the three, all mounting natively to Echelon, P320, and RXM slides. For a gun you carry daily, the sealed housing is worth the weight and the money. An open-emitter dot leaves the LED exposed at the rear of the optic, where pocket lint, sweat, sunscreen, blood, and holster grit can settle over it and dim or kill the dot at the worst possible moment. An enclosed emitter buries that LED behind a front lens, so the only thing that can obscure your dot is something on the outside glass, which you can wipe clear in a second. That single design change is why enclosed optics dominate duty and concealed-carry recommendations.
