Methodology

One repeatable training-load benchmark

Qualifying in-stock training-ammunition offers are converted to price per round, deduplicated within each retailer, and summarized as the median of each retailer's median offer. Every caliber must have at least five accepted offers from at least two retailers. Advertised item prices exclude shipping and tax.

Defensive, hunting, match, subsonic, remanufactured, and specialty loads are excluded. This prevents a changing mix of premium ammunition from masquerading as a market-wide price move.

Metric: Median of retailer median advertised prices per round. Latest published month: September 2026.

Next step

Put the benchmark to work

Price answers how much ordinary practice costs. Bullet construction, weight, barrel length, and intended use still determine which specific load belongs in the firearm.
