Lehigh Defense
Best non-expanding .380 ACP defensive load. Solid copper monolithic bullet with hydraulic flutes creates a 0.66 inch permanent crush cavity without relying on hollow point expansion, eliminating all expansion failure risk.
Lehigh Defense Xtreme Defender 380 Auto 90gr takes a fundamentally different approach to terminal performance. Instead of relying on hollow point expansion, the solid copper CNC-machined projectile uses four precision-cut flutes at the nose that redirect hydraulic pressure radially as the bullet passes through tissue. This creates a permanent crush cavity approximately 0.66 inches in diameter while the bullet penetrates 14.2 inches, well inside the FBI's 12 to 18 inch window.
Because the Xtreme Defender is a solid copper projectile with no hollow point cavity, there is nothing to clog with clothing fibers. Performance through heavy barriers is identical to bare gel performance. This makes it a compelling choice for states that restrict hollow point ammunition, or for shooters who want absolute assurance that their carry ammo will perform correctly regardless of the barrier encountered.
At 1,050 fps the Xtreme Defender produces approximately 220 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, at the top of the .380 ACP performance envelope. The monolithic copper construction maintains 100% weight retention through any barrier. The tradeoff versus conventional JHPs is price: at $1.50 to $2.00 per round, it costs two to three times more than Federal Punch and significantly more than HST.
