Crye Precision
Crye's two-piece overlapping shell design for ventilation under load. NIJ IIIA rated at roughly 2.7 lb complete, made in the USA, the right pick when heat management matters as much as protection.
The Crye Precision AirFrame ATX is the helmet to buy when heat management is as important as ballistic protection. Crye's two-piece overlapping shell design creates a vented gap between the upper and lower panels that allows hot air to escape under load, a tangible advantage on hot ranges and in long-duration operations where a sealed FAST shell becomes an oven.
Ballistic certification is NIJ Level IIIA, the same as a FAST SF or EXFIL Ballistic. Complete weight is approximately 2.7 lb, which puts it slightly heavier than the Team Wendy EXFIL Ballistic and noticeably heavier than the Ops-Core FAST SF Next Gen, but the airflow benefit closes the perceived-weight gap during sustained wear. The ATX variant is lighter than the original AirFrame helmet by removing some of the fixed accessory hardware in favor of modular options.
Crye sells the AirFrame ATX direct and through Atomic Defense and CTOMS. Lead times vary; in-stock availability is more common at Atomic Defense than Crye direct. The matching Crye AirFrame Helmet Cover is purpose-cut to fit the two-piece shell and runs $69-76 in Multicam. Avoid generic FAST helmet covers, which do not accommodate the AirFrame's geometry.
