Overview
The BX-5 Santiam HD is Leupold's premium flagship and the handling favorite of the premium group. At 24.3 oz it is the lightest binocular over $1,000 here, and the open-bridge body is genuinely easy to run one-handed on a long stalk. Optically it uses Leupold's Elite Optical System with Guard-ion scratch- and water-shedding coatings, giving a bright, neutral image with a wide 341 ft field of view. It does not quite match the Conquest HDX's last-light transmission, but for a hunter who values a light, fast-handling binocular and Leupold's lifetime guarantee, it earns its price.
