Overview

The Geissele Super Charging Handle (SCH) is built around a single problem: suppressor gas blowback driven back through the charging-handle channel into the shooter's face. Rather than a taller fence, the SCH uses a raised rear lip that extends up and over the charging-handle opening, sealing the gap where gas escapes when the bolt cycles on a suppressed or short-barreled rifle. The result is fuller coverage of the channel than a conventional latch design, which keeps eye-watering gas blasts and fouling out of the upper receiver. It is machined from a solid block of 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in Type III hardcoat anodizing, the same materials and process Geissele uses across its rifle-grade hardware.

The SCH is fully ambidextrous, with extended levers that can be manipulated confidently from either side, under an optic, and with gloves. At roughly 1.5 ounces it carries a small weight penalty over a stripped mil-spec handle, but that mass goes into the reinforced rear lip and the dual-lever geometry rather than dead weight. It is a different, fuller-coverage model than Geissele's Airborne Charging Handle (ACH): the ACH relies on a taller rear fence, while the SCH seals the opening with a raised lip that physically caps the channel.

For a build that runs a can or a short barrel, the SCH lands at $99, undercutting most premium gas-mitigating charging handles while delivering the same core benefit. It is the right pick when you want measurable blowback reduction and ambidextrous control without stepping up to the ACH's price or committing to a specific military-program design.

Key Features

  • Machined from solid 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum
  • Type III hardcoat anodized finish
  • Raised rear lip seals the charging-handle channel against suppressor gas
  • Fully ambidextrous extended levers
  • Positive, glove-friendly engagement surfaces
  • Part number 05-313B (5.56/.223, black)
  • Weight: approximately 1.5 oz

Pros

  • +Raised rear lip provides full-coverage gas blocking for suppressed shooting
  • +Ambidextrous operation from either side
  • +7075-T6 aluminum with Type III hardcoat anodizing
  • +Sub-$100 price for a gas-mitigating charging handle
  • +Extended levers work well under optics and with gloves

Cons

  • Heavier than a basic mil-spec charging handle
  • Gas-blocking benefit is only relevant on suppressed or short-barreled builds
  • AR-15/5.56 model only; AR-10/.308 requires the separate 762 variant
