Overview

The SilencerCo Gas Defeating Charging Handle (GDCH) takes a different approach to suppressed gas blowback than every other handle in this category. Where the Geissele ACH raises a rear fence to deflect gas and the PRI Gas Buster ports gas down into the magwell, the GDCH carries a captive O-ring at the rear of the handle that physically seals the gap between the charging handle and the upper receiver. Suppressor back-pressure that would normally vent straight back through that gap into the shooter's face is stopped at the seal. SilencerCo engineered it as the dedicated gas-busting companion to its cans, and the sealed approach addresses the one path the deflection and porting designs leave partially open.

Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished with a Type III hard-anodized coating, the GDCH (part number AC5062) is built to the same standard as premium ambidextrous handles. Both levers are usable, so support-side charging works without breaking your firing grip, and the latch geometry clears optics and mounts that crowd a mil-spec handle. The modest weight penalty over a bare mil-spec handle is the cost of the seal and ambidextrous hardware.

The sealed-deflection design is the GDCH's reason to exist. On a short-barreled or suppressed 5.56 build, gas blowback through the charging-handle channel is one of the most common comfort complaints, and a handle that seals the gap rather than redirecting the gas keeps both the shooter's eyes and the upper receiver channel cleaner. It fits standard AR-15, M4, and M16 pattern upper receivers. SilencerCo also offers dedicated MPX and MCX variants for those platforms; this AC5062 entry is the AR-15 model.

Key Features

  • Captive O-ring at the rear seals the charging-handle gap against gas blowback
  • Sealed-deflection mechanism, distinct from ported-shaft or raised-fence designs
  • Ambidextrous levers for support-side charging
  • Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum
  • Type III hard-anodized finish for wear and corrosion resistance
  • Fits AR-15, M4, and M16 pattern upper receivers
  • Part number AC5062; designed by a suppressor manufacturer for suppressed use

Pros

  • +O-ring seal blocks gas at the gap instead of merely deflecting it
  • +Ambidextrous operation from either side
  • +Built by a suppressor manufacturer specifically for suppressed shooting
  • +7075-T6 aluminum with durable Type III hard anodizing
  • +Keeps the upper receiver channel cleaner than open-gap handles

Cons

  • Gas-sealing benefit is only relevant when running a suppressor or short barrel
  • O-ring is a wear item that will eventually need replacement
  • Heavier than a bare mil-spec charging handle
  • AR-15 model only; MPX and MCX hosts need the separate variants
