Spyderco
USA-made 2.95" CPM-S45VN compression-lock folder with G10 scales. The Paramilitary 2 in CCW-legal blade length.
The Para 3 is what Spyderco built when enough customers asked "I love the Paramilitary 2 but it's too big for daily carry." Same compression lock, same G10 scales, same flat grind, same Round Hole opening, scaled down to a 2.95" blade. The result is a knife that does everything the PM2 does in a package that fits in dress-pants pockets and meets the 3" municipal carry threshold most cities use.
CPM-S45VN replaced CPM-S30V across the Spyderco lineup starting in 2020. It's a refined version of S30V with niobium added, holding an edge longer and resisting corrosion better while sharpening slightly easier. The full flat grind from spine to edge gives the Para 3 excellent slicing geometry; this knife pulls through cardboard, rope, and plastic strapping with less effort than thicker-stocked competitors.
The Compression Lock is the mechanical highlight. A small leaf of steel sits between the blade tang and a stop pin; opening the blade snaps the leaf into place behind the tang, and pinching the leaf releases it. Your fingers stay completely out of the blade closure path during disengagement, the same safety advantage as the Benchmade AXIS lock without the omega-spring failure mode. Lockup is rock-solid, and one-handed closing is genuinely easier than any liner or frame lock. At 3.4 oz the Para 3 is heavier than the Bugout, but it feels more substantial in hand.
