Benchmade
USA-made 2.82" S30V drop point with the AXIS lock and Grivory scales. 1.5 oz makes it the lightest premium folder in production.
The Mini Bugout is what you carry when you want a premium American folder that you genuinely don't notice in a pocket. At 1.5 oz, it weighs less than a standard car key fob. The Grivory scales are technically polymer, but they're stiffer and more rigid than the Spyderco FRN, and they hold the steel liners in a way that gives the knife a solid feel that belies its weight.
CPM-S30V is the steel that defined "premium American EDC" for a generation. It's a powdered-metallurgy stainless that holds an edge significantly longer than VG-10 or D2 while resisting corrosion better than both. It's harder to sharpen than mid-tier steels (you'll want diamond stones), but a properly sharpened S30V edge will cut all week without touch-ups. Some buyers complain that S30V is "old" and want M390 or MagnaCut, the truth is that for an EDC that mostly opens packages, S30V is plenty.
The AXIS lock is the standout mechanical feature. A spring-tensioned crossbar runs through holes in the blade tang and the steel liners; pull it back to disengage. The result is fully ambidextrous one-handed opening and closing without putting your fingers in the blade path during disengagement. It's noticeably faster to deploy and stow than a liner lock or back lock. The 2.82" blade is sub-3", which means the Mini Bugout passes most municipal carry tests, where the standard 3.24" Bugout 535 doesn't.
