Wilcox G24 Mount w/ Low Profile Breakaway Base, Black, NSN 5855-01-593-6422, 28300G24-B
The Wilcox L4 G24 is the helmet NVG mount almost every serious end-user buys at least once. The breakaway design is the differentiator: under impact, the dovetail interface releases the goggle before transferring the load to the user's neck or the goggle's housing. That is the feature that justifies the $500 price tag versus the Norotos Rhino II at half the cost.
The mount accepts devices with a mil-spec dovetail interface. That covers dovetail-equipped PVS-15, PVS-18, PVS-31A, the L3Harris BNVD-1531, and aftermarket housings built to the dovetail spec. A PVS-14 monocular needs a compatible dovetail J-arm; older bayonet-interface devices require a separate adapter shoe because the G24 does not accept them directly.
The base mounts to either the VAS shroud (factory standard on Ops-Core FAST, Team Wendy EXFIL, Galvion Caiman, HHV ATE, Crye AirFrame) or the USGI 3-hole shroud found on MICH/ACH/PASGT helmets. Weight is 5.7 oz, with a 5-year standard limited warranty through Wilcox. If you can only afford one premium piece of helmet kit and you actually plan to use night vision under stress, this is the piece.
