Overview

The DANIEL H9 is Daniel Defense's entry into handguns, and it is not a polymer gun. The frame is Type 7075 aluminum, the same alloy family the company uses for AR receivers, and the slide is CNC-machined with a DLC coating. That construction is what produces the H9's defining trait: mass sits low and the bore line sits close to the shooter's hand, so muzzle rise between shots is noticeably flatter than a comparable polymer striker gun.

Daniel Defense pitches the gun as 1911 ergonomics with striker-fired operation, and the layout backs that up: a stainless steel straight-pullback trigger with a blade safety, customizable ambidextrous controls, and carbon steel dovetail-cut sights with a fiber optic front zeroed from the factory at 25 yards. The frame carries a STANAG 4694 accessory rail up front for a light or laser.

The slide is optic ready through a mounting plate rather than a bare footprint cut. Daniel Defense sells an H9 RDS Adapter Plate Kit separately, and every H9 ships with a coupon for one free plate. Confirm the plate you need matches the red dot you intend to run before ordering, because Daniel Defense does not publish the plate footprints on the product page.

Capacity is 15+1 and the gun ships with three magazines, which is unusual at this price and worth counting against a competitor's two. At 29.6 ounces with an empty magazine it is heavier than a polymer full-size, which is the direct cost of the aluminum frame and the flat-shooting behavior that comes with it.
