Overview

The Ruger Security-380 is the budget answer to the easy-rack question. Ruger took the Security-9 frame, scaled down to .380 ACP, added pronounced rear cocking ears to the slide, lightened the recoil spring, and re-cut the slide serrations for grip. The result is a full-size .380 with a 15+1 double-stack capacity that almost anyone can rack, priced at $369 MSRP. For shooters who want maximum capacity and minimum slide effort at the lowest possible price, nothing else in the category competes on dollars-per-round.

The Lite Rack system is the engineering centerpiece. The pronounced rear ears give a positive purchase that fingers with limited dexterity can hook onto, even without the thumb-and-forefinger pinch grip that fails arthritis sufferers. The lighter recoil spring drops racking force into the same range as the M&P 380 EZ while keeping the gun reliable with standard .380 ball and defensive loads.

The hammer-fired Secure Action gives a clean trigger break with a tactile reset, more refined than a typical striker pocket pistol. The Picatinny rail accepts standard pistol lights, and the included 10- and 15-round magazines make this the highest-capacity easy-rack platform available.
