The Wheeler AR Armorer's Vise is not trying to be a universal cradle. It exists to hold an AR-15 steady for the jobs a general-purpose vise handles awkwardly: assembling a lower, installing a handguard, and detail-cleaning. An integrated, angle-adjustable magwell insert engages the lower receiver, and an adjustable front support secures the barrel portion of the upper or a forend, both on non-marring surfaces.
For anyone building or maintaining ARs it is the right tool at roughly $61. It will not cradle a bolt gun or a shotgun, and it is not meant to. Paired with an armorer's wrench it turns a workbench into an AR build station for less than the price of most all-purpose vises; for the heaviest barrel-nut torque, the receiver grip of a bolted gunsmithing vise is steadier still.
