Barnes
The lead-free .30-06 hunting load. A 180gr all-copper TTSX for deep, straight-line penetration on elk and heavy game, and for California condor zones and other lead-restricted hunts.
Barnes VOR-TX 180gr TTSX is the .30-06 hunting load for places where lead bullets are banned and for hunters who prioritize deep penetration from an all-copper bullet. The Tipped Triple-Shock X-Bullet is machined from solid copper with a polymer tip that initiates expansion at impact. The bullet opens into four copper petals while the shank stays intact, producing a straight, deep wound channel with no lead core or jacket to separate.
Barnes builds the .30-06 VOR-TX around a 180gr TTSX BT, heavier than the 168gr TTSX in the company's .308 load, taking advantage of the larger case to drive a long-for-caliber copper bullet to roughly 2,700 fps and 2,914 ft-lbs. Polymer-tipped construction keeps BC reasonable for medium-game distances once drops are verified, and expansion stays reliable down to about 1,800 fps impact velocity, the practical range limit. Inside that window the TTSX is among the most reliable expanding bullets in any hunting caliber.
The case for TTSX goes beyond California regulation. Bonded lead bullets perform well, but the all-copper construction is the pick when penetration and meat free of lead fragments matter more than explosive terminal effect. Expect premium pricing near $60 per box; this is the load to test when copper is mandated, when the game is heavy, or when straight-line penetration is the priority.
