Fort Scott Munitions 8.6 Blackout Subsonic 285 Grain CNC Machined Solid Copper Brass Cased Centerfire Rifle Ammo, 20 Rounds, 86BLK-285-SCV2SS
Fort Scott Munitions 8.6 Blackout 285-grain Subsonic is one of the few 8.6 BLK factory loads that stays in regular circulation rather than perpetual backorder, which matters because 8.6 ammunition is the cartridge's real supply bottleneck. The bullet is a CNC-machined solid copper Tumble Upon Impact (TUI) projectile, Fort Scott's signature design, which yaws aggressively on impact to dump energy rather than relying on traditional hollow-point expansion.
This is a load with a specific caveat that you must respect. Fort Scott tunes the 285-grain charge for a 12-inch barrel, where it runs about 1,056 fps. Published 16-inch ballistics still show it subsonic at roughly 1,050 fps, but a 285gr subsonic load sits close to the transonic threshold, and barrel, temperature, and lot variation all move velocity. Do not trust the box number on a longer barrel: chronograph this load from your own rifle before you run it under a can, and reach for a heavier dedicated subsonic load if your chronograph shows it creeping toward the speed of sound.
At roughly $2.70 per round it sits in the normal price band for 8.6 Blackout factory ammunition, which runs from about $1.89 at the floor to over $3.00 for premium and supersonic loads. Anyone shooting 8.6 in volume should plan to reload; factory ammunition is expensive, and out of stock is the default state for most loads.
Add the Fort Scott Munitions 8.6 Blackout 285gr TUI Subsonic to your build and see how it enhances your platform.
