Overview
The Shorty is the speed-focused cut of Esstac's KYWI line. It uses the same Kydex Wedge Insert friction retention as the Midlength, but the body stops at 3.5 inches tall, leaving more of the magazine exposed for a faster, more positive grab.
That tradeoff favors shooters who prioritize draw speed: competition belts, low-vis chest setups, and anyone who reindexes mags often. The shorter body holds slightly less of the magazine, so it is a touch less secure than the Midlength under hard prone or rolling work, but for most belt and placard use the retention is more than enough.
Like the rest of the KYWI family this is a 5.56 / STANAG single that takes polymer or aluminum AR-15 magazines and will not fit AK or 7.62x51 mags.
