Classic checkered cocobolo wood grips for the 1911, the value pick for traditional aesthetics
Hogue's cocobolo grips are the classic 1911 wood-grip pick for shooters who want traditional aesthetics without the price tag of premium engraved options. Cocobolo is a dense African hardwood with deep brown and reddish-orange grain that darkens further with handling and age. The diamond checkering pattern is hand-finished, providing real traction (unlike smooth wood grips that turn into glass when wet).
Hogue offers multiple SKUs: standard checkered (45811), ambi-cut checkered (45821), smooth (45810), and palm-swell variants (45891). For most carry or range 1911s the standard 45811 is the right pick. Wood grips do require care: don't soak them in solvent, and they will eventually wear smooth in heavy training rotation. For a traditional 1911 build, no synthetic grip looks right by comparison.
