Analog video is judged on how it fails, not on how it looks in bright sun, and the Ratel 2 fails gracefully in the two situations that matter: low light and high dynamic range. The 1/1.8-inch starlight sensor is physically large for a 19 mm micro camera, and its 0.0001 lux minimum illumination rating is what lets you keep flying twenty minutes after a digital system has turned to mud. Super WDR handles the other case, flying out of a shaded treeline into open sky without the exposure blowing out.
Resolution is 1200TVL through a 2.1 mm lens at a 165-degree field of view, which is the standard freestyle framing: wide enough to see your gaps, not so wide that the fisheye distortion makes distance judgment unreliable. Latency is 8 ms end to end at the camera, which is negligible next to the link and the goggle. NTSC and PAL are switchable, as are 4:3 and 16:9, so the camera matches whatever aspect your goggles are happiest with rather than forcing a letterbox.
Input voltage is the practical detail people miss. The Ratel 2 accepts anything from 5 V to 40 V, so it runs off the flight controller's 5 V rail, the 12 V rail, or direct battery on a filtered pad, and it does not need a dedicated regulator. At 5.9 g in a 19 x 19 x 20 mm body it drops into any standard micro camera mount, including the one molded into the Nazgul XL5 frame's TPU.
