The 3M Peltor ComTac V Hearing Defender is the non-comms Hearing Defender version of the ComTac V family. Current retail pricing is just over $500, below many full comms-enabled ComTac variants while retaining the same tactical hearing-protection platform.
Environmental listening mode uses external microphones to amplify ambient sound to a natural level while managing impulse noise from gunfire and other loud events. The result is near-transparent hearing with fast electronic protection. Compared to consumer electronic muffs, the difference in sound processing quality is immediately apparent: voices sound natural rather than digitized.
Gel ear cushions seal effectively over eyewear stems and create a comfortable, secure fit for extended wear. The headset can be integrated into helmet setups with the right adapters, giving helmet users a non-comms ComTac option with the same family ergonomics.
