The Precision Armament M4-72 is the brake to reach for when flattening a .308 AR-10 is the priority and you accept the tradeoff that comes with it. The manufacturer rates it at roughly 75% recoil reduction, and on a 7.62x51 gas gun that turns a shoving recoil impulse into something close to a 5.56 push, keeping the optic on target for fast follow-up shots. It is machined from 17-4 PH stainless and heat-treated, so it survives the blast erosion that destroys aluminum brakes, and it is rated up to .338 caliber.
The 5/8x24 thread is the .308 standard, so the M4-72 drops onto any correctly threaded AR-10 barrel. Precision Armament's port geometry is tuned to balance recoil and muzzle rise rather than just blasting straight back, which is why it shows up on so many precision and DMR-style .308 builds. The flip side of any aggressive comp is concussion: the M4-72 is loud and throws a sharp side blast, so shooters next to you on the line will feel it, and a flash hider or suppressor is the better call for low-signature work.
At $94.99 the M4-72 sits in the serious-brake tier below boutique titanium comps while outperforming most budget .308 brakes on actual recoil numbers. For an AR-10 built to shoot fast and flat at the range or in competition, it is the recoil-reduction pick. If you plan to run a can, choose a suppressor-mount brake like the SureFire SOCOM or Lantac Dragon instead.
