CZ 457 American

The CZ 457 American is the precision-rimfire standard the rest of the field gets measured against. CZ makes its barrels in-house, cold hammer-forged, and the 457 series has a long-running reputation for printing tight groups with match ammunition straight from the box. The American variant wears a walnut sporter stock with a flat comb and a 24.8-inch light-profile barrel.

The 457 action is built for shooters who tinker. The trigger adjusts for pull weight, creep, and over-travel; the 60-degree bolt clears large scope bells; and the barrel is held by a barrel nut, so a 457 owner can swap barrels and even chamberings at home with a headspace gauge. CZ and the aftermarket back the platform with chassis, target stocks, aftermarket triggers, and magazines from 5 to 25 rounds.

Against the Tikka T1x, the CZ trades a slicker action for arguably the better barrel and a deeper precision-rimfire aftermarket. The American stock is a hunting profile, not a chassis, so competition shooters often start with the Varmint or MTR variants instead. For a precision .22 that will reward better ammo and better glass for years, the 457 is the platform to build on.
