CZ 457 Scout

The CZ 457 Scout is the heirloom youth .22, the one a parent buys expecting it to outlast childhood. It puts CZ's in-house cold hammer-forged barrel and adjustable trigger on a short beechwood stock with a 12-inch length of pull, so a child gets a rifle that actually shoots like a 457 rather than a toy that merely fits.

The Scout's defining advantage over single-shot youth rifles is that it is a full CZ 457. The 16.5-inch barrel comes threaded 1/2x28 from the factory, making it the rare youth rifle that hosts a rimfire suppressor without modification, a real benefit for protecting young ears at the range. It ships with a single-shot adapter for supervised first sessions, but the action accepts every CZ 457 magazine from 5 to 25 rounds, so it converts to a repeater as skills grow. Because all 457 stocks share the same inletting, the Scout takes a full-length adult stock later, and the barrel-nut system even allows a chambering swap down the road.

A leaf rear sight and blade front handle iron-sight work, and the receiver's 11mm dovetails mount a scope easily. It costs more than a Crickett or Rascal, but those are dead ends a child outgrows; the Scout grows with the shooter and never stops being a serious rimfire.
