Overview

The HK VP9A1 K is the first true compact in the VP9 family, a January 2025 launch that shortens the grip by roughly one-third of an inch versus the original VP9 for better concealment while keeping the 4.09-inch barrel length. It inherits the A1 platform's improvements wholesale: the nickel-Teflon coated trigger bar, the factory flared magwell, the 9-plate optic system, and the 54-configuration grip. The flush-fit mag drops from 17 rounds (F) to 15 rounds (K), which is still best-in-class for a compact 9mm in this size envelope.

Magazine compatibility is the practical advantage HK owners care about. The VP9A1 K accepts flush 15-rounders and the full-size 17- and 20-round VP9/VP9A1 F magazines, which means a K-sized carry gun grips a full-size magazine for reloads or home defense. Factory optic-compatible night sights ship standard. The Picatinny rail accepts every mainstream pistol light in a compact frame that clears most carry holsters cut for the Glock 19 or Walther PDP Compact.

The K fills the gap HK had between the full-size VP9 and the subcompact VP9SK, and in 2026 it is the most natural carry choice for HK enthusiasts who want one optic and one trigger system across their full-size and concealed pistols. Holsters cut for the original VP9 OR will not fit the K due to the shorter grip and rebalanced profile.

Key Features

  • A1 nickel-Teflon coated trigger bar
  • Factory flared magwell
  • 9 optic adapter plates
  • 4.09" cold-hammer-forged polygonal barrel
  • 15-round flush / 17- and 20-round extended VP9 mags
  • Full ambidextrous controls
  • Compact grip (shorter than original VP9)
  • Factory night sights

Pros

  • +First true compact in the VP9 line with the A1 trigger upgrades
  • +Backward-compatible with all existing VP9 magazines
  • +15-round flush fit is best-in-class for the size envelope
  • +Shares optic plates with the F so one plate inventory covers both guns
  • +Full ambidextrous controls in a compact size

Cons

  • Holsters cut for original VP9 OR do not fit the shorter K grip
  • Thin aftermarket for K-specific parts at launch
  • Priced above Glock 19 Gen5 MOS and M&P 2.0 Compact
  • 15-round flush fit loses ground to 15+ round Glock 19 aftermarket basepads
  • Compact proportions slightly hurt factory trigger feel vs the longer F
