Overview

The PSA 5.7 Rock is the gun that broke FN's pricing monopoly on the 5.7x28mm cartridge. At $499 for the base model, it costs roughly half what an FN Five-seveN runs while delivering the same flat-shooting, low-recoil, high-velocity round that pushes 40-grain bullets past 1,900 fps from a handgun-length barrel. The 5.2-inch fluted carbon-steel barrel wears a QPQ finish, and the slide is machined from 416 stainless steel rather than the cast or MIM parts you would expect at this price.

Capacity is the headline. The Rock ships with a 23-round magazine, putting 23+1 on tap in a flush-fit package that beats almost every duty 9mm and matches the FN's own 20-round sticks with room to spare. The slide carries Glock-pattern sight cuts, so the enormous aftermarket of Glock-compatible irons and suppressor-height sights drops straight on. A full-length Picatinny rail under the dust cover takes any standard weapon light or laser.

The optics-ready variants are where the Rock earns its keep as a suppressor and red-dot host. Those models ship with a 1/2x28 threaded barrel and a thread protector, so a 5.7 or rimfire-rated can mounts with no gunsmithing, and the milled slide accepts a micro red dot. At around $549 fully optioned, the threaded optics-ready Rock undercuts a bare FN Five-seveN MRD by several hundred dollars while matching its core feature set.

Key Features

  • 5.7x28mm chambering with 40-grain loads exceeding 1,900 fps from the 5.2-inch barrel
  • 23-round flush-fit magazine, 23+1 onboard
  • 5.2-inch fluted carbon-steel barrel with QPQ finish
  • 416 stainless steel slide
  • Glock-pattern front and rear sight cuts for drop-in iron sight swaps
  • Full-length Picatinny accessory rail
  • Optics-ready variants with 1/2x28 threaded barrel and thread protector
  • Optics-ready slide milling for micro red dots

Pros

  • +Roughly half the price of an FN Five-seveN for the same cartridge and capacity
  • +23-round magazines deliver class-leading onboard capacity
  • +Glock-pattern sight cuts open up a huge aftermarket of irons and suppressor-height sights
  • +Threaded optics-ready variants are suppressor-ready out of the box for around $549
  • +416 stainless slide and QPQ barrel punch above the value price point

Cons

  • Newer platform without the multi-decade duty track record of the FN Five-seveN
  • 5.7x28mm ammunition costs more per round and is less widely stocked than 9mm
  • Base model lacks the threaded barrel and optic cut; you pay around $549 for both
  • Aftermarket holster and parts support is still thinner than for Glock or SIG
