M&P M2.0 5-inch optic footprint: what red dots fit

Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 5"

The M&P M2.0 5-inch does not have one optic footprint. The optics-ready slide is machined for Smith & Wesson's C.O.R.E. plate system, so the plate matching your red dot bolts into the slide and the optic bolts to the plate. The factory C.O.R.E. plate kit covers the Trijicon RMR and Holosun 507C pattern plus the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. Machined aluminum and steel plates take the same slide to the Aimpoint ACRO and to the compact Holosun EPS and Shield RMSc / Holosun K optics. Two dots skip the plate entirely, the Holosun SCS-MP2 and the C&H Direct Mount, because both are built to bolt into the C.O.R.E. pocket itself.

Optics ready is a separate M&P M2.0 SKU, not a feature every M2.0 carries. A standard M2.0 slide has no plate pocket behind the rear sight, and no adapter can create a cut that is not there. Smith & Wesson sells drop-in optic-ready slides that fix that using your existing frame, barrel and recoil spring, and it also sells M2.0 slides milled directly for a Trijicon RMR, an Aimpoint ACRO or a Holosun 509T. Those dedicated-cut slides take no plate at all.

M&P M2.0 5-inch optic fitment FAQ

What optic footprint does the M&P M2.0 5-inch use?

Do I need an adapter plate to mount a red dot on the M&P M2.0 5-inch?

Yes, for almost every optic. The M&P M2.0 5-inch mounts red dots through a plate system, so you bolt the plate matching your optic's footprint into the slide and then bolt the optic to the plate. The exceptions are optics built for that pocket, such as the C&H Direct Mount Optic for S&W M&P 2.0 and Holosun SCS-MP2-GR, which mount with no plate. Plates are available for the Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C, Shield RMSc / Holosun K, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Aimpoint ACRO and Holosun 509T footprints.

Does the Holosun 507C X2 fit a M&P M2.0 5-inch?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun 507C X2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the M&P M2.0 5-inch using a matching plate such as the Forward Controls OPF-SW RMR Plate and Smith & Wesson M&P CORE Factory Optic Plate Kit. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Trijicon RMR Type 2 fit a M&P M2.0 5-inch?

Yes, on a plate. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 is a Trijicon RMR / Holosun 507C footprint optic, so it mounts on the M&P M2.0 5-inch using a matching plate such as the Forward Controls OPF-SW RMR Plate and Smith & Wesson M&P CORE Factory Optic Plate Kit. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Holosun 507K X2 fit a M&P M2.0 5-inch?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun 507K X2 is a Shield RMSc / Holosun K footprint optic, so it mounts on the M&P M2.0 5-inch using a matching plate such as the C&H Precision S&W M&P M2.0 CORE to Holosun EPS / EPS Carry / SCS Carry Plate and Calculated Kinetics S&W M&P 2.0 DOGTAG Optic Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Does the Holosun EPS Carry fit a M&P M2.0 5-inch?

Yes, on a plate. The Holosun EPS Carry mounts on the M&P M2.0 5-inch using a matching plate such as the C&H Precision S&W M&P M2.0 CORE to Holosun EPS / EPS Carry / SCS Carry Plate and Calculated Kinetics S&W M&P 2.0 DOGTAG Optic Plate. Install the plate to the slide first, then the optic to the plate.

Should I replace the factory C.O.R.E. plate with a steel one?

It is the usual first upgrade. The plate Smith & Wesson ships is plastic, and the optic screws pass through it and thread into the slide rather than stopping in the plate. Machined steel plates split those jobs: dedicated 6-32 plate-to-slide screws hold the plate down and separate screws hold the optic to the plate. Forward Controls Design also notes that factory-height M&P sights sit too low to line up under its plate, so plan on suppressor-height irons at the same time.

Are the RMR screws and the Holosun screws the same on an M&P plate?

No, and mixing them is how people bottom out a screw or leave one short. On the Forward Controls OPF-SW RMR plate, the Trijicon RMR, RMR HD, RCR and SRO use the screws in the box, while the Holosun 407C and 507C need the shorter set that ships with the Holosun optic. Use the screws specified for the optic you are actually mounting, then torque to the plate maker's figure.
