DOE Buys Staccato HD C3.6 + RMR Executive-Protection System

The Department of Energy is buying the Staccato HD C3.6 Preferred Package and a Trijicon RMR mounting kit for federal law-enforcement personnel who perform executive-protection duties. DOE's Office of Headquarters Procurement Services published the sole-source notice for the Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security on August 13.

DOE followed through. The response period closed August 28 at noon EDT, and on September 11 DOE signed purchase order 89303026PAU000057 with Staccato 2011, LLC. The order was not competed, received one offer, and is a firm-fixed-price order for DOE's Office of Executive Protection. Its period of performance starts September 18, 2026, the date the notice had listed, and ends September 17, 2027. The award record does not list a pistol quantity.

DOE is seeking more than pistols and optic hardware. The notice calls for annual weapon inspections, agency armorer training, and train-the-trainer transition support. It also requires a lifetime warranty and a loaner program after an officer-involved shooting.

Those services turn a pistol purchase into a support program. The agency needs people who can inspect and maintain the system each year. It also needs instructors and armorers who can keep the program running after the first delivery. The loaner requirement covers a specific operational gap: a duty pistol may remain in evidence after a shooting, while the officer still needs an approved weapon.

The C3.6 is the smallest pistol in Staccato's HD line. It uses a 3.6-inch bull barrel, a 7075 aluminum frame, and Glock-pattern magazines. Staccato lists a 24-ounce unloaded weight, 15+1 capacity, and a 4.8-inch height. Those dimensions keep the pistol closer to a compact carry gun than a full-size duty pistol.

The Preferred Package adds a DLC-coated barrel, an aluminum curved trigger, and a third magazine. Staccato's HOST system uses footprint-specific hardware for slide-mounted optics. DOE's notice names a Trijicon RMR mounting kit, which points to a defined pistol and optic interface rather than a pistol selected without its sighting system.

The tradeoff is simple. A short, light pistol is easier to conceal under normal clothing, but it gives up some sight radius and mass compared with a larger duty model. That is why the C3.6 occupies a different role from the compensated Staccato HD C4X. The notice gives the HD C3.6 a meaningful federal-duty signal. DOE has named the pistol, package level, optic interface, inspection schedule, and training support it wants for an executive-protection mission. That is stronger evidence of institutional interest than a review or range impression.

The September 11 purchase order confirms the purchase path. It is an order for DOE's Office of Executive Protection, and the award record does not say how many pistols it covers.
