SureFire XC3-B: XC3 Now 1,000 Lumens, 13,000 Candela

SureFire nearly doubled the XC3's output without changing its size. The XC3-B produces 1,000 lumens and 13,000 candela where the original XC3 produced 550 lumens and 7,200 candela, and it does so in the same 2.6-inch body at the same 2.65 ounces. Rated beam distance moves from 170 meters to 228 meters.

The mechanism is the power source rather than a new emitter package. The XC3-B ships with SureFire's SFRCR123 rechargeable lithium cell, and the high numbers are the rechargeable's numbers. The light still accepts a standard SF123A lithium primary, which returns it to 550 lumens, 7,200 candela, and the original 170-meter beam. That dual-fuel behavior matters more on a carry gun than it does on a duty rifle: a dead rechargeable cell at the wrong moment is solved with a CR123A from any counter, at reduced output, rather than by taking the light out of service.

The battery loads from the front, behind the bezel. The cell can be changed without dismounting the light, so the clamp stays torqued and the light stays indexed where it was on the rail. Body material is high-strength aerospace aluminum with SureFire's Mil-Spec hard anodizing, sealed to IPX7. Switching is ambidextrous with momentary and constant-on positions, and the light retains a lockout to keep it from being switched on inside a bag.

The XC3-B ties the X300U-A on lumens and beats it on candela. Both are rated at 1,000 lumens, but the XC3-B throws 13,000 candela against the X300U-A's 11,300, which is the figure that decides how far a usable hotspot reaches. The XC3-B does it at 2.6 inches and 2.65 ounces, where the X300U-A is 3.76 inches and 4.0 ounces on two 123A cells.

Runtime is where the full-size light keeps its advantage. The X300U-A runs 1.25 hours on its pair of primaries. The XC3-B gets 45 minutes at 1,000 lumens on the rechargeable cell, or 1.75 hours if you accept 550 lumens on a primary. For a light that spends its life holstered and gets used in bursts, 45 minutes is a different kind of number than it is on a rifle light, but it is still the cost of the output. The X300U-A currently sells at $319.99 against the XC3-B's $369, close enough that size and runtime, not cost, decide this one.

The practical read is that the compact light is no longer the compromise choice on output. A shooter picking between the two is now deciding between beam duration and a light that hides half an inch further back under a compact slide. The XC3-B mounts to a conventional pistol rail, and the XC3 Sub mounts to guns that do not have one. SureFire specifies the XC3-B for most railed compact handguns and states it attaches to both universal and Picatinny rail patterns, so it clamps onto the host directly. That is the ordinary case for a compact duty or carry pistol such as a Glock 19 or Glock 45.

Subcompact and micro-compact pistols are the exception. Guns like the Glock 43X and 48, the Springfield Hellcat, the H&K CC9 and the SIG P365 carry an abbreviated proprietary rail rather than a standard one, and those take the XC3 Sub announced at SHOT Show 2026, which fits through interchangeable rail sets and adapters. The two lights are not a performance tier. They run the same 1,000-lumen, 13,000-candela engine in the same 2.6-inch, 2.65-ounce body, so the rail on the gun decides which one you buy, not the spec sheet.

Holsters are the other half of the fitment question, and this is where the unchanged dimensions pay. Because the XC3-B carries the original XC3's 2.6-inch length and 0.945-inch bezel, shells already cut for an XC3 index on the same body, and SureFire describes the light as compatible with a wide range of holsters already on the market. The XC3-B removes the main reason to accept a full-size light on a compact gun. Compact pistol lights have historically traded output for concealment, and buyers who wanted duty-grade candela on a carry gun either hung an X300 off a Glock 19 and dealt with the length, or accepted a few hundred lumens. A 13,000-candela light at 2.65 ounces closes that gap, and it does it without an adapter kit or a proprietary battery pack.

The rechargeable cell is the part worth thinking about before buying. Forty-five minutes at full output is short, and a rechargeable lithium cell on a defensive gun is a maintenance item in a way a primary is not: it needs a charge schedule. SureFire's answer is that the light still runs a hardware-store CR123A, and that the front-loading port means checking or swapping the cell does not disturb the mount. That is a reasonable answer, and it is the same trade Streamlight made with the USB-C rechargeable ProTac line on the long-gun side.
