Hornady
The classic 10mm hunting load. Hornady's XTP bullet is engineered for controlled expansion across a wide velocity window, making it the most flexible 180gr hunting load when you don't want a hard cast solid.
Hornady's XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) is the original modern hunting hollow point and has been the default civilian 10mm hunting load since the cartridge was reintroduced. The 180gr load runs 1,275 fps from a 5-inch barrel for 650 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, comfortably inside full-power 10mm territory.
The XTP bullet design uses a deeply skived jacket and a controlled expansion profile that performs across a broad velocity window. Unlike defensive hollow points that prioritize maximum expansion at duty barrel velocity, the XTP is tuned to expand reliably from contact distance out to handgun-realistic ranges (50-75 yards), and to penetrate deep enough through heavy hide and bone to reach vitals on medium game.
For whitetail deer at handgun ranges, feral hogs, and medium-sized game where a clean expanding bullet is appropriate, the XTP 180gr is the most flexible 10mm hunting load on the market. It's also significantly less expensive than the boutique Underwood or DoubleTap hunting offerings while delivering proven terminal performance backed by decades of field data. This is the load to put through a Glock 40, M&P 10mm, or Dan Wesson Razorback for handgun hunting season.
