CMMG
Drop-in .22LR conversion bolt for an existing 5.56 AR-15 upper, the budget alternative to a dedicated rimfire upper for an FRT build.
+5 more
The CMMG .22LR conversion kit (the Bravo line) is a drop-in rimfire bolt that runs inside an existing 5.56 AR-15 upper. Pop the 5.56 BCG, drop in the .22 conversion bolt, load a CMMG .22LR magazine, and the rifle runs rimfire through the same barrel. It is the cheaper entry point for a .22LR forced reset trigger build for shooters who already own a 5.56 AR and do not want to buy a complete dedicated upper.
The tradeoff is reliability. A conversion bolt firing .22LR through a 5.56 bore has more bore-to-bullet slop and runs dirtier than a purpose-built .22 barrel, and the conversion bolt's lighter, less-tuned blowback action is exactly where forced reset timing gets fragile. For a finicky FRT build, the dedicated CMMG Banshee .22LR upper is the more consistent foundation; the conversion kit is the budget compromise, not the reliability pick.
Kits ship in several configurations by magazine count, with street prices from roughly $155.99 (no magazine) to $239.95 (three 25-round magazines) at OpticsPlanet and Brownells.
