Knights Armament
Mil-spec two-piece drop-in quad rail issued to USSOCOM

The Knights Armament M4 RAS (Rail Adapter System) is the two-piece drop-in quad rail that became synonymous with the SOPMOD program. Adopted in the early 2000s as part of the Block I and Block II Special Operations Peculiar Modification kits, the M4 RAS provided special operations forces with a standardized four-sided Picatinny rail system for mounting optics, lights, lasers, and vertical grips. The two-piece design clamps around the standard M4 barrel nut, requiring no armorer-level installation or barrel nut changes.
The RAS features four full-length MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail segments machined from aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish. It is a carbine-length drop-in assembly for rifles with a delta ring assembly, fixed front sight/gas block, and round handguard end cap. The upper and lower halves are secured by two cross-bolts that provide a rock-solid lockup with zero play. KAC's rail covers (sold separately) snap into the unused rail sections to provide a comfortable grip surface and protect the rails from damage. The design prioritizes absolute durability and standardization over weight savings.
While the M4 RAS has been superseded by free-float M-LOK rails like the DD RIS II and Geissele MK16 in current military use, it remains the correct handguard for period-accurate MK18 Mod 0 and early Block II clone builds. The drop-in installation makes it one of the easiest quad rails to install, and the battle-proven design continues to serve reliably in harsh environments worldwide.
