Overview

The SilencerCo Osprey and Octane ship configured for tilting-barrel pistols, where a spring-loaded piston (the Nielsen device or booster) lets the barrel tilt out of battery without dragging the weight of the suppressor through the action. On a fixed-barrel host there is no tilt to accommodate, so that booster spring is not just unnecessary, it is a liability. The fixed barrel spacer replaces the piston and locks the can solidly to the barrel for consistent point of impact and reliable function on PCCs, subguns, and other non-tilting hosts.

Installation is a parts swap inside the suppressor's mount. You remove the spring-loaded piston assembly and drop in the spacer, which then threads onto a fixed-barrel adapter or directly onto the host's muzzle threads depending on the setup. SilencerCo machines the spacer from 17-4 stainless steel and heat treats it for durability under the higher sustained round counts a carbine or subgun puts on a mount. The spacer is the direct counterpart to the piston: piston for tilting handgun barrels, spacer for fixed barrels.

The spacer itself is a standard accessory and carries no paperwork. The Osprey or Octane it mounts is the regulated NFA item, requiring a Form 4 transfer, fingerprints, a background check, and NFA registration. Under current law the federal making and transfer tax on suppressors is zero and eForm approvals are running on the order of days to a couple of weeks, but the registration and background-check steps still apply. Suppressor ownership is legal in 42 states; confirm your state allows it before buying the can.
