Overview

The SilencerCo Piston is the recoil booster that makes a pistol suppressor actually work on a tilting-barrel handgun. Browning-action pistols like the Glock, M&P, and Sig P-series unlock by tilting the barrel down during the recoil stroke, and hanging six to eight ounces of suppressor off the muzzle adds enough dead weight to slow that unlock and induce failures to cycle. The piston is a spring-loaded Nielsen device that decouples the can's mass from the barrel during recoil, giving the slide the impulse it needs to run reliably.

The 1/2x28 piston threads onto the host pistol barrel and indexes the suppressor's mount on the other end. It is machined from heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel for durability under the repeated impact of the booster spring, and it carries SilencerCo part number AC1756. Pistons are thread-pitch-specific, so this 1/2x28 unit is the correct booster for the most common 9mm threaded pistol barrels; SilencerCo offers the same piston in other pitches and a fixed spacer for non-tilting hosts and PCCs where no booster is needed.

This piston fits SilencerCo's piston-mount pistol cans, including the Osprey 2.0 and Octane series. It also indexes on the muzzle for soft-shoulder hosts such as the Glock 43, M&P Shield, and Sig P938. If you change host barrels or move a can between pistols with different thread pitches, swapping the piston to match is the standard procedure rather than buying a second suppressor.

Key Features

  • Spring-loaded Nielsen device boosts reliable cycling on tilting-barrel pistols
  • 1/2x28 host thread covers the most common 9mm threaded pistol barrels
  • Heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel construction
  • Fits SilencerCo Osprey 2.0 and Octane series cans
  • Indexes on the muzzle for soft-shoulder hosts (Glock 43, M&P Shield, Sig P938)
  • Thread-pitch-specific; swaps to match a new host barrel

Pros

  • +Required hardware to run a SilencerCo can on a tilting-barrel pistol reliably
  • +Durable heat-treated 17-4 stainless construction
  • +Covers the most common 9mm pistol thread pitch
  • +Lets one suppressor move between hosts by swapping the piston

Cons

  • Thread-pitch-specific; a different host pitch needs a different piston
  • Booster only matters on tilting-barrel hosts; fixed-barrel hosts and PCCs use a spacer instead
  • Adds a wear part that the booster spring fatigues over a long service life
