Overview

The EOTech EXPS2 is the daylight-only member of the EXPS family. It shares the EXPS3's housing, 3.8 x 2.3 x 2.9 inch dimensions, 11.2 ounce weight, side-mounted brightness buttons, and integral quick-detach lever, and it runs the same 68 MOA ring with a 1 MOA center dot on the -0 reticle. The raised EXPS base puts standard iron sights in the lower third of the window, and the side buttons stay reachable with a G33 or other flip-to-side magnifier mounted directly behind the sight.

Two specs separate it from the EXPS3. The EXPS2 has 20 daylight brightness settings and no night vision settings, where the EXPS3 adds 10 settings for Gen I through III+ night vision devices. EOTech also rates the EXPS2 water resistant to 10 feet, against 33 feet for the EXPS3. Power is a single transverse CR123 battery rated for 1,000 continuous hours at setting 12 at room temperature, and the operating range is -40°F to 140°F. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click, and the sight is made in the USA.

Against the XPS2, which shares the 3.8 inch length but sits lower and narrower at 2.1 x 2.5 inches with rear buttons and a cross-bolt mount, the EXPS2 adds 2.2 ounces in exchange for the side buttons, the QD lever, and the lower 1/3 co-witness height. In November 2015, EOTech and its then-parent L-3 paid $25.6 million to settle a False Claims Act lawsuit; EOTech admitted it knew of thermal drift and cold-weather parallax problems and kept selling the sights to the military without disclosing them.

Key Features

  • 68 MOA ring / 1 MOA center dot (-0 reticle)
  • 20 daylight brightness settings
  • Side-mounted buttons stay reachable behind a magnifier
  • Adjustable, locking quick-detach lever for 1 inch Weaver or MIL-STD-1913 rails
  • Raised base for lower 1/3 iron sight co-witness
  • Single CR123 battery, 1,000 hours at setting 12
  • 0.5 MOA windage and elevation clicks

Pros

  • +Same EXPS body, side buttons, and QD lever as the EXPS3 for less money
  • +Lower 1/3 co-witness height keeps irons below the center of the window
  • +Side buttons pair cleanly with a flip-to-side magnifier

Cons

  • −No night vision settings, so it cannot run behind a night vision device
  • −Water resistant to 10 feet versus 33 feet for the EXPS3
  • −11.2 oz is 2.2 oz heavier than the XPS2 and far heavier than micro red dots
  • −1,000-hour CR123 battery life is short next to LED red dots
