Sig MCX Virtus Patrol 16"

The Sig Sauer MCX Virtus Patrol is now best treated as a legacy MCX row. It remains a real and important 16-inch MCX configuration, but SIG's current commercial MCX focus has moved to MCX-SPEAR LT. Keeping the Virtus row is useful for comparison, used-market research, and existing owner upgrade planning, not as the primary current-production SIG MCX recommendation.

The 16-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel features a 1:7 twist optimized for heavier projectiles and can be user-changed without tools for caliber conversions between 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout. The short-stroke piston system borrowed from AR-18 design principles keeps hot gases out of the action, resulting in cleaner operation and reduced gas blowback when suppressed. The two-position gas valve allows tuning for suppressed and unsuppressed use. The Virtus features the upgraded Matchlite Duo trigger, fully ambidextrous controls including bolt catch/release on both sides, and an M-LOK handguard for extensive accessory mounting options.

Compared with a standard AR-15, the Virtus gives up some parts commonality and adds weight, but gains a folding-stock architecture and piston-driven MCX operating system. Buyers comparing current prices should separate old-stock or used Virtus listings from new MCX-SPEAR LT listings.
