Colt
The original production 10mm pistol reintroduced with dual recoil spring system
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Colt Delta Elite holds a unique place in 10mm history. Introduced in 1987, it was the first widely available production 10mm pistol, bringing Norma's powerful cartridge to the mass market before the Bren Ten could achieve reliable distribution. The Delta Elite gave the FBI their evaluation platform that led to the Bureau adopting 10mm (and subsequently commissioning the .40 S&W when agents could not manage the recoil).
The current production Delta Elite addresses the original model's most significant flaw: frame cracking at the dust cover after sustained full-power use. Colt redesigned the recoil system with a dual spring assembly that absorbs the 10mm's peak pressure impulse before it reaches the frame. The all-stainless-steel construction provides the mass needed to moderate felt recoil, making full-power 10mm loads noticeably more manageable than in lighter polymer alternatives.
At $1,199, the Delta Elite occupies a middle ground between budget polymer 10mm options and premium 1911 builds. It delivers authentic Colt 1911 quality with the heritage significance of being the model that brought 10mm to the mainstream. The 8+1 capacity and lack of rail or optic cut limit its practical applications, but for shooters who value 10mm history and the 1911 single-action experience, the Delta Elite is the definitive choice.
